FAQ
01
Why should I take on an apprentice?
Apprentices give you the chance to train someone to work exactly the way your business needs, while accessing government funding towards the cost of that training. Many employers find apprentices bring fresh motivation to the team and, because they're trained on your standards from day one, often become some of the most loyal, long-serving members of staff.
02
What is my main responsibility as an employer?
Beyond day-to-day line management, you're responsible for providing a genuine job relevant to the standard, paying at least the correct apprentice minimum wage, releasing your apprentice for their off-the-job training, providing a safe working environment, and engaging with regular progress reviews with Salt Training.
03
How long does it take to get an apprentice started?
This varies depending on availability of places and eligibility checks, but once you've confirmed you'd like to proceed, we aim to move as quickly as possible — from initial enquiry through to your apprentice starting is often just a few weeks as we are able to start apprentices at any point during the year.
04
What support does Salt Training provide to employers?
You won't be left to work it out alone. We provide an Employer Delivery Map for your apprentice's standard, breaking down exactly what workplace exposure they need over the course of their programme, along with Line Manager Guidance covering induction, mentoring, and your responsibilities as an employer. Your apprentice's trainer will also visit regularly and run formal progress reviews with you every 8–12 weeks.
05
Can I take on more than one apprentice?
Yes, there's no limit on the number of apprentices a business can employ, provided you can meet your responsibilities to each of them individually — a genuine job role, correct pay, and protected off-the-job training time for everyone.
